About Emma

After many years of working in the business world and raising two children,  I made the leap to pursue a career in what I truly love. Six years ago, I was introduced to energy work and was immediately hooked! I became a Reiki Master so I could share the wonderful benefits of being in tune with your energetic fields. The mysteries of emotions and their effects on our bodies did not seem so complex and random after I was initiated into Reiki. While energy work is very subtle, it is very powerful and the effects last long after a session is over. It is truly the gift that keeps giving!

In 2008, I entered massage therapy school so I could further serve those interested in a holistic approach to health. The range of modalitites one can specialize in is vast but I relate best to the Applied Kinesiology theories often used by chiropractors. Muscle testing and neurolymphatic massage are two techniques I employ in my practice as well as trigger point, Swedish and deep tissue massage.

I am often asked if my massage is Swedish or deep tissue and my response is…yes! I do not have an ”either/or” technique. I integrate several modalities to create a unique healing experience for each client. A client may feel they need deep pressure on a painful point but relief may come with gentle manipulation of a referring trigger point. Client feedback is critical, however, and I feel we are partners with the goals of reducing pain and promoting health.

Because I feel touch is so powerful, I volunteer with an area hospice as well as nursing homes. The medically fragile and elderly often go long periods without non-medical related touch and massage can help reduce emotional and physical pain often experienced during end-stage illness. I am honored to be in the presence of these brave souls and humbled by their strength.

I am nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and by the Virginia Board of Nursing which is the regulatory body for massage in Virginia.

In my spare time, I enjoy tennis, hiking, reading, going to concerts…just about anything where I can laugh and enjoy the company of interesting people!

I am the also the owner of a social media management company offering support to small business owners. For more information, please visit my site at http://nicholsonsocialmedia.com
